How do you think naturalists and scientists can use technology?
What is your favorite…
I love to play soccer and surf. I like to get totally absorbed and lost in nature when hiking. I have developed a great eye for insects and signs of insects.
Nature-based memory from childhood?
Road trips across country and finding and holding the starfish in the tidal pools at the washington shore. Also, becoming friends with a red admiral in the back yard of my home when I was 4. “Flyvie” would often come by land on my family and me :). I learned later that the butterfly was not really being friendly. Flyvie was being territorial!
So tough! There are so many great critters out there. Out of the vertebrates, I’ll go with Dolphin. When it comes to invertebrates… Dragonflies, Praying Mantises, Tortoise beetles (so adorable!)
Place to visit?
Wildwood, NJ, Ithaca, NY
When you were little, what did you want to be when you grew up?
I was 4 years old I wanted to be a fairy princess and a cat. In first grade I wanted to be an Astronaut or an Entomologist. I ended up going with the more tangible subject – bugs!
What motivates you to work in nature?
The idea of exploring the unknown! There are so many unknowns when it comes to insects and then even more unknown unknowns.
